AUSTIN POOLS GOES GREEN
At Austin Pools Goes Green we believe owning a
swimming pool is a wonderful right and privilege. Many people are
concerned about minimizing their "foot prints," and these same can
easily be applied to our waterscapes. With some pre-planning, there are
easy, cost effective ways to minimize the impact our swimming pools have on
our environment overall and on other important resources like water and
energy. Austin Pools Goes Green would like to list some
key points to consider in terms of "going green" with your
swimming pool. Of course, that's environmentally green, not algae
green!
- Water evaporation - It's amazing to
consider that the average swimming pool loses about 7,000 gallons of
water a year to simple evaporation. How many years of human life
could that sustained with that many gallons of water? Luckily,
this is easy to remedy simply with a pool cover. There are
lots of pool cover options on the market today and in all price
ranges. A pool cover is the simplest and easiest way to reduce
water loss through evaporation. Just remember that water loss is
not always from evaporation. A leak can cause a water loss of over
700 gallons a day. So, if you are losing more than 1/4" of
water within 24 hours (1/2" on a super hot day) than you might have
a leak in your swimming pool, which should be addressed as quickly as
possible.
- In floor cleaning systems - Consider an in floor
cleaning system during the design process. In floor systems
increase and improve overall water circulation which improves the
loss of chemicals to evaporation and also saves money on heating your
swimming pool.
- Equipment considerations - Consider
a cartridge filter rather than a sand filer. Cartridge filters
require less water and clean just as efficiently as other types of
filters.
- Chemical alternatives - There are
several alternatives to chlorine on the market today. Several
include salt systems, oxygen systems and copper ionization.
Austin Pools Goes Green recommends
